Preparing 4 His Kingdom

Encouragement from Erica Lerisse

Spiritual Warfare

March 16, 2024

Julia had come to church in despair.  I saw her outside washing her face.  She was so tired, so sleepy, so discouraged.  “Madame Paste”, she said, “Please help me pray.  I have not been asleep in three days.  Every night as I try to fall asleep devils are waiting for me.  I am afraid to sleep and I do not know what to do. Please help me pray.”

“Julia” I responded, “ I will help you pray, but this is a battle you must fight yourself”.

So many times in my life I have been in despair, distress, discouraged, afraid, and depressed.  I have been hopeless, disappointed, and plane scared to death.  Often I thought I could pray the problem, the threat away.  At other times I thought the need of the hour was an army of others praying for me.  While prayer must be our automatic response in every distress and prayer to our God must be the inhale and exhale of daily life I have learned that though my God is with me in Canaan land and has promised me the victory, He will not fight for me the battles He has given me to fight. Battles are not prayed away, they are prayed over, confronted, fought God’s way, in His strength, and prevailed over.

Obedience to His Word is the call of the hour.  Prayer without Obedience is futile at best.

Julia did not know how to read, could not hold a Bible right side up on her own.  But the Word of God is powerful!  She needed it in this battle.  “Julia, let me teach you a verse right now.  ‘The Lord is my Shepherd I shall not want’”.  “When you lay down to sleep tonight and the devils come, you speak your salvation testimony out loud.  Sing every song you know about the blood of the Lamb.  Quote this verse with faith in your good Shepherd, and pray out loud in the name of Jesus to God Almighty!  The battle is yours Julia. You must fight!”

The following Thursday night at our midweek service Julia came to the property looking bright and refreshed and smiling.  “Madam Paste, let me tell ya”. She said!  I have slept soundly every night this week.  That first night was a war.  All night long I sang, prayed, quoted that verse about my good shepherd, stood on my testimony.  I could sleep for an hour and then it would start over again. But the battle was won and I have slept every night!

2 Corinthians 10:4-6 (KJV)

4 (For the weapons of our warfare [are] not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)

5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

6 And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.

By prayer, and by obedience to the Word of God battles are fought and won to the praise of our worthy Captain Jesus Christ who gives us the victory!
